Glycerine

June 12 – July 10 2026
By Eva Payne

Curated by Lauren MacColl
Installation View by Sadhbha Cockburn

“We pray at the altar of aesthetics while
We live in the womb of ignorance”

Weaponizing the materiality of cleaning products, Glycerine critiques the motives of hostile architecture, the hazardous design that deters birds, graffiti, and the unhoused.
Soap sweats like human skin and shares its pH. Combining this materiality with class-driven, exclusionary design, Payne wrestles with the idea of social sanitation and disarms and dissolves it with ephemerality, folding the material back into itself.

Eva Payne is an emerging artist living and working on Gamaygal land. Weaved with satire and systems, her works are concerned with the body, (dis)order, class structures and the power dynamics of public space.

Puzzle Gallery acknowledges the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation as the traditional owners of the land upon which the gallery stands. We pay our respects to their elders, past, present and emerging.
